Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has initiated a grassroots mobilisation effort in the North Central region to garner support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election in 2027. Akume, who is also the Grand Patron of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network, met with stakeholders, including the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, in Abuja on October 2, 2026. The meeting aimed to strategize and intensify mobilisation efforts across the region.

The North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network was established to mobilise support and votes for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket across the North Central region. Akume outlined three major activities planned by the network, including a North Central Grand Rally scheduled for October 10, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, a comprehensive medical outreach programme, and a North Central Grassroots Advocacy Tour and Town Hall Meetings covering the 19 senatorial districts across the six North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The planned medical outreach programme aims to provide humanitarian services to people at the grassroots level, complementing the political mobilisation efforts. The programme will include comprehensive eye screening and treatment, cataract assessment, and diabetic eye screening, among other services. Akume stressed that the initiative, endorsed by the APC National Secretariat, was designed to take the campaign for President Tinubu beyond Abuja and into communities across the North Central region.

The North Central Grand Rally, scheduled for October 10, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, is expected to draw supporters and members of the APC from across the region. The rally aims to publicly demonstrate support for President Tinubu and his re-election bid. Additionally, the stakeholders have resolved to establish a reconciliation committee to address grievances and promote unity among party members and political stakeholders across the North Central region.

The National Coordinator of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network, Arch. Sonny Echono, described the mobilisation programme as an effort to unite the North Central region as a cohesive bloc and demonstrate its support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election. Echono emphasized that the programme would commence with public communication of the planned activities, followed by sustained media engagement and grassroots mobilisation across the region.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, assured stakeholders of strong media support for the planned mobilisation activities, noting that effective communication would be critical to the success of the programme. Idris, however, called for broader reconciliation efforts across the North Central region, emphasizing the need to address grievances to ensure a unified front.

Key stakeholders, including governors, government appointees, and critical political actors from across the North Central region, have resolved to work collectively to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and demonstrate solidarity with President Tinubu. The group is expected to reconvene next week to intensify preparations for the Lafia rally and coordinate the broader grassroots mobilisation programme across the region.
