AKSA Composites, a Turkish company and subsidiary of the Akkök group, has officially announced its expansion to Tunisia. The company signed a lease agreement on September 24 for an industrial site at the Borj Cédria Technopole. This marks AKSA Composites' first foray into the African continent. The project represents an initial investment of $5 million and aims to develop activities related to the manufacture of composite components and materials for the aerospace sector.
The Tunisian aerospace ecosystem played a significant role in securing this investment. The Groupement des Industries Tunisiennes Aéronautiques et Spatiales (GITAS), led by President Stefania Sonia Dallali, was instrumental in identifying and connecting with the Turkish investor. Initial contacts between GITAS and AKSA Composites were made at the Hamburg Aviation Forum in 2025. This led to several discussions and meetings to showcase Tunisia's industrial capabilities and its integration into international aerospace value chains.
The GITAS president, Stefania Sonia Dallali, highlighted the significance of AKSA Composites' arrival in Tunisia. She emphasized that the choice of Tunisia by a Turkish player specializing in advanced composite materials demonstrates the confidence gained by the Tunisian aerospace sector over the past few decades. With over 80 companies and a strong export orientation, the Tunisian sector has progressively integrated into international value chains.
The investment was also facilitated by the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of Tunisia (FIPA-Tunisia). The agency accompanied the project through its various stages, including discussions on site selection, implantation conditions, and necessary procedures. A meeting organized by FIPA on May 19, 2026, confirmed the project and continued discussions around its implementation in Tunisia.
Through this expansion, AKSA Composites aims to develop an industrial activity focused on composite materials and aerospace applications. The group already has international expertise in composite materials and industrial operations for the aerospace and high-performance sectors. AKSA Composites has also collaborated with several major international players in the aerospace industry.
The future Borj Cédria site is expected to be the starting point for progressive industrial development in Tunisia. Industry sources suggest that operational start-up is planned for 2028, with the creation of several dozen direct jobs in the long term. Beyond the investment amount, the focus is also on technology transfer, local skills development, and strengthening Tunisia's position in international value chains for advanced materials and aerospace.
This development marks a new stage in the opening of the Tunisian aerospace sector to new investors and industrial partners. The GITAS and FIPA-Tunisia have played complementary roles in promoting industrial dynamics and facilitating investment. With AKSA Composites, the sector is set to benefit from increased investment, technology transfer, and job creation.
