Senate President Godswill Akpabio has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for the inauguration of a 4.12km road project in Ikot Ekpene local government area. Akpabio stated that the internal road network has contributed to making the state a destination of choice for tourists and investors. The project, which includes an outfall drain and additional erosion reclamation works, was part of Eno's efforts to develop the state's infrastructure.
Akpabio expressed his appreciation for Eno's numerous development projects in the state, including the completion of the International Airport terminal, acquisition of additional aircraft for Ibom Air, and the ongoing completion of the International Convention Center and international hotel. He noted that Akwa Ibom was previously a pedestrian state, but Eno's intentional development efforts have changed the narrative. Akpabio emphasized that Eno's projects have transformed the state into a destination, attracting tourists and investors.
During the commissioning ceremony, Akpabio praised Eno for his dedication to developing the state, saying that he has seen Eno's efforts firsthand and is impressed with the progress made. Akpabio mentioned that he had visited the newly completed terminal building at the airport and was amazed by its quality, comparing it to Heathrow Airport in London. He encouraged Nigerians to visit Akwa Ibom to witness the state's development.
Akpabio assured that the people of Ikot Ekpene, whom he represents, will mobilize to vote for Eno and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. He appreciated Eno's efforts and expressed his pride in the governor's achievements. President Tinubu also sent his greetings through Akpabio, expressing his pride in Eno's accomplishments.
In his remarks, Governor Eno commended Akpabio for his continued support and solidarity with his administration. Eno noted that Akpabio's presence at major events in the state demonstrates his love and encouragement. He recalled Akpabio's recent visit to witness the reception of a new aircraft at the Victor Attah International Airport, describing it as a deliberate show of support.
Eno explained that the GRA project, which he inherited from the previous administration, has been completed with modern roads, drainage, and other infrastructure required to transform the area. He stated that his administration is working on projects across all 31 Local Government Areas and will continue to commission completed projects through December. Eno invited Akpabio to commission the International Conference Centre and the 200-bed International Hotel in the near future.
The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, expressed appreciation to Eno for completing the GRA project, noting that the area has been transformed into a full GRA through the governor's intervention. The Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, provided an overview of the project, explaining that it was initially 2.5 kilometers but was later upgraded to 4.12 kilometers in February 2026.
