Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 7 of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area in Edo State paid a solidarity visit to the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yekini Idaiye, in Benin City. The visit was to felicitate with the Speaker on his emergence. According to Dr. Babatunde Martins, spokesperson of the group, the delegation was mandated by the ward to congratulate Idaiye. He noted that if all members of the ward had come, over 40,000 people would have stormed Benin.
Dr. Martins described Idaiye's emergence as Speaker as a divine arrangement, assuring him of the ward's full support. He said the ward would give Idaiye a minimum of 80% votes when it comes to voting. Martins also stated that the ward is working across Akoko-Edo to ensure victory for the party, adding that Idaiye would not only deliver Ward 7 but the entire Akoko-Edo.
Martins praised Idaiye, describing him as a son who has never deviated or failed, but has continued to carry everybody along. He urged Idaiye to maintain synergy with the Government House and the Governor in legislative business, particularly in policy formulation and implementation for the development of the state.
In response, Speaker Yekini Idaiye thanked the delegation for visiting him in Benin. He attributed his emergence as Speaker to God's will, stressing that it is God who gives power to whoever He pleases. Idaiye expressed delight at having the delegation in his office, thanking them for finding time to congratulate him on behalf of over 50,000 electorates in the ward.
Idaiye called on party members to go back home and work for all candidates of the party, setting a target of 95% votes. He appealed to the party members to support one of their own and not give up, citing the government's efforts for their family.
During the visit, Idaiye announced the appointment of Comrade Frank Aweh as Director General of the APC Ward 7 Campaign Council. He pledged to give Aweh the needed support to enable him to deliver from unit to unit and family to family in Ward 7. As the number three man in the state, Idaiye vowed to support the campaign council to deliver all nine communities in the ward for the APC.
The visit by the Akoko-Edo APC Ward 7 leaders demonstrated their commitment to the party and its leadership. The pledge of 80% votes for the party and the appointment of a campaign council Director General are expected to boost the party's chances in the ward. The Speaker's call for party members to work together to achieve a 95% vote target is seen as a move to strengthen the party's position in the state.
