Akdital, a leading Moroccan healthcare provider, has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Al Bishri hospital in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The deal was finalized after meeting regulatory and operational conditions outlined in an agreement signed on December 19, 2025. The hospital has been renamed Akdital Makkah Al Mukarramah. This strategic move marks Akdital's first hospital acquisition outside of Morocco.
The acquisition includes a comprehensive renovation and modernization program, increasing the hospital's capacity from 120 to 126 beds. The upgraded facility will feature 19 emergency posts, including two intensive care beds, 18 polyvalent resuscitation beds, eight cardiology intensive care beds, and seven neonatal resuscitation beds. The hospital will also have seven operating theaters, an obstetrics room, and complete radiology and laboratory services.
According to Rochdi Talib, president of Akdital, this acquisition represents a significant milestone in the company's strategic expansion. The hospital's configuration is tailored to meet the unique demands of Mecca, which serves a large population and hosts over 18 million pilgrims annually. The city's healthcare infrastructure experiences peak usage during a few weeks of the year, necessitating a strong focus on emergency and critical care services.
This acquisition aligns with Akdital's growth strategy in Saudi Arabia, which is part of the kingdom's Vision 2030 plan. The plan aims to develop the healthcare sector and has opened opportunities for private foreign operators. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
