Moroccan healthcare group Akdital has announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Al Bishri Hospital, located in the heart of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The acquisition was completed after fulfilling regulatory and operational conditions outlined in a memorandum of understanding signed on December 19, 2025. The hospital will now operate under the name Akdital Makkah Al Mukarramah.
Akdital Makkah Al Mukarramah will offer a range of medical services, including cardiology, interventional cardiology, general surgery, intensive care, obstetrics and gynecology, neonatology, emergency services, and medical imaging. The hospital's acquisition marks a significant milestone in Akdital's expansion into Saudi Arabia, aligning with the country's Vision 2030 goals to develop its healthcare sector.
Dr. Rochdi Talib, President and CEO of Akdital, emphasized that the acquisition represents a strategic move to establish a reference hospital in Mecca, focusing on medical excellence, patient safety, and quality service. The group plans to invest in the hospital's modernization and expansion, increasing its capacity to 126 beds from 120.
A comprehensive renovation and modernization program has been initiated to upgrade the hospital's infrastructure, equipment, and care pathways. The program includes the expansion of emergency services, critical care, cardiology, and surgery, as well as maternal and child health services. The hospital will feature 19 emergency care posts, including two dedicated to resuscitation, and 18 polyvalent intensive care beds.
Dr. Shady AlMasry, Medical Director of Akdital in Saudi Arabia, highlighted the unique healthcare needs of Mecca, which must cater to both residents and an increasing number of pilgrims throughout the year. The hospital aims to address these needs by providing multidisciplinary care, enhanced emergency services, and robust medical governance.
