Nigeria's leading carrier, Air Peace Limited, has acquired another Embraer 190, bringing its total Embraer fleet to 18 aircraft. This latest addition is part of the airline's strategic fleet acquisition and expansion programme. The Embraer fleet includes the latest technology-driven E195-E2 series. Air Peace stated that this acquisition marks a significant step in its expansion plans. The airline's fleet growth is focused on supporting its evolving network requirements.
The new Embraer 190, a 96-seat jet, landed at Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2 on October 7, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m. The aircraft was flown into Lagos by Captain Mrs. Ibironke Rotimi-Olajide. This marks the eighth aircraft acquired by Air Peace in 2026, highlighting the airline's rapid fleet expansion. The aircraft has been named after Mrs. Eka Sunmonu, wife of former Shell Petroleum Development Company Managing Director, Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu.
The Embraer 190 features a 12 Business Class and 84 Economy Class seat configuration, offering passengers operational versatility and a passenger-focused cabin. The Business Class section has a 1-2 configuration, providing greater personal space and privacy, while the Economy Class has a 2-2 layout that eliminates the middle seat. Passengers also benefit from generous legroom and in-seat power sockets. This configuration aims to enhance the overall travel experience.
Air Peace Spokesperson, Mr. Osifo-Whiskey Efe, commented on the acquisition, stating that the new Embraer 190 demonstrates the airline's commitment to fleet growth and network development. Efe emphasized that Air Peace is building a diverse and versatile fleet to strengthen its network and improve schedule resilience. The airline aims to provide greater connectivity across its markets.
The latest acquisition is part of Air Peace's broader expansion strategy, which includes a growing Boeing portfolio. The airline has acquired five Boeing 737-800 aircraft this year, further reinforcing its fleet acquisition and network expansion plans. Air Peace operates a diverse fleet, including Embraer and Boeing aircraft, deployed across domestic, regional, and international operations.
Air Peace's sustained investment in fleet growth and modernization aims to support its evolving network requirements. The airline remains focused on strengthening connectivity within Nigeria, deepening its footprint across Africa, and supporting its expanding international operations. This strategic approach is expected to drive growth and enhance the airline's market presence.
With 18 Embraer aircraft and a growing Boeing portfolio, Air Peace is building capacity for the long term. The airline's fleet decisions are tied to its broader expansion strategy, which prioritizes deploying the right aircraft across its network. Air Peace's continued investment in aircraft and network development is expected to drive growth and enhance its market presence.
