Air Mauritius has announced a profit of Rs 4.1 billion for the 2025-2026 financial year. The national carrier revealed its annual results on Friday, 30 October 2026, after the board of directors formally approved the audited financial statements. The airline's financial performance was significantly influenced by the reassessment of provisions for ticket refunds and the recognition of revenue from unused travel vouchers issued during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The airline's profit was also driven by unrealised gains from the revaluation of monetary assets and liabilities. Additionally, advantageous jet fuel prices and the strength of the euro throughout the financial year contributed to the positive outcome. This profit marks a key milestone for the flag carrier, pushing its equity back into positive territory at approximately Rs 1.37 billion. This recovery comes after the airline's equity had remained negative since the onset of the pandemic.
Despite the positive financial performance, the board of directors has warned against complacency. They noted that elevated fuel costs anticipated for the 2026-2027 financial year cannot be fully passed on through higher passenger fares. Air Mauritius Chief Executive Officer André Viljoen echoed the board's cautious stance, describing the performance as encouraging while warning that efforts must not be relaxed.
Viljoen cautioned that the favourable conditions enjoyed in 2025-2026, specifically regarding fuel costs and euro exchange rates, cannot be treated as guaranteed for the upcoming period. The airline plans to maintain its focus on operational changes under its "Future-Fit Game Changer" strategy. This ten-pillar transformation programme aims to improve overall service quality, enhance employee engagement and collaboration, and adapt the airline's fleet to better suit its route network.
As part of its transformation strategy, Air Mauritius will reinforce strict cost-control measures while launching initiatives designed to boost revenue. The airline will implement targeted efforts to stimulate passenger demand. The board of directors and Viljoen emphasised the importance of continued efforts to ensure the airline's long-term sustainability.
The airline's performance is a significant recovery milestone, especially considering the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Air Mauritius has demonstrated resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity. The airline's focus on transformation and cost control will be crucial in maintaining its financial stability.
Looking ahead, Air Mauritius will continue to navigate the complexities of the aviation industry. The airline's ability to maintain its financial momentum will depend on various factors, including fuel costs, exchange rates, and passenger demand. With a cautious outlook, Air Mauritius is poised to build on its recent success and drive future growth.
