The people of Agege in Lagos State celebrated Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary on October 1, 2026, with a unique event that doubled as a grassroots mobilisation drive for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, and former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Dr. Oluyinka Ogundimu, led stakeholders in the Agege APC to commence mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The event, which featured a massive turnout of APC members and supporters, served as the official campaign flag-off for the APC candidate for Agege State Constituency II in the House of Assembly, Honourable Shakiru Sule Enimakure. Other prominent APC figures, including Honourable Oluwagbenga Micheal Abiola, also showed solidarity with the candidates. Abiola, popularly known as Agbelebu, used his oratory skills to rally voters to support the ruling party in the upcoming elections.

Dr. Opeifa and Dr. Ogundimu, in their separate addresses, expressed confidence in the APC candidates and emphasised the importance of unity among party supporters. They stressed that sustained support for the APC would ensure continuity in governance and development initiatives. Dr. Opeifa also urged residents of Agege and its environs to remain steadfast and work collectively towards delivering overwhelming votes for the party at all levels.

The event featured endorsements for various APC candidates, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu for President, Dr. Kadir Obafemi Hamzat for Governor, and Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule for Senate, Lagos West Senatorial District. Other candidates endorsed included RT Honourable Mudashiru Obasa for House of Representatives, Agege Federal Constituency, and Oluwagbenga Micheal Abiola and Sule Shakiru Enimakure for the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Convener of the programme and House of Assembly hopeful for Agege Constituency 02, Shakiru Sule Akindele Enimakure, described the gathering as a strategic platform to unite party members and strengthen mobilisation efforts at the grassroots. He noted that the Independence Day celebration was an opportunity to reinforce political awareness and participation among residents.

The colourful event featured cultural displays, music, games, and community interactions, reflecting a blend of political engagement and festive celebration. Party leaders at the event reiterated their commitment to ensuring a decisive victory for APC candidates, urging supporters to translate their enthusiasm into votes during the elections.

Dignitaries present at the event included former member of the House of Representatives for Agege Federal Constituency, Taofeek Abiodun Adaranijo, and current member of the state House of Assembly for Constituency II, Honourable Jubreel Abdul Kareem. Other notable attendees were Olu of Agege Kingdom, Oba Kamila Oyedeji Isiba, and Alaige of Orile Agege, Oba Ambali Agbedeyi.
