The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God (AG), Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has announced that the upcoming World Assemblies of God Congress will focus on driving a global expansion agenda. The congress, scheduled to take place in Accra from October 14 to 16, 2026, aims to expand the Christian faith and plant at least one million churches by 2033. This target is part of the theme for the 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress, “COMMISSIONED: One Mandate, Every Nation.”

Rev. Wengam emphasized that the theme is not just a slogan but a call to action for all Assemblies of God churches, pastors, and members to embark on evangelism. The MM33 target is linked to the commemoration of 2,000 years since the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Congress will also focus on church health, empowering the next generation, and pursuing greater revival. This global gathering will provide an opportunity for church leaders and members to develop strategies to improve the growth of the denomination and sustain its Pentecostal drive.

The Assemblies of God currently has about 89.9 million members and 451,000 local branches worldwide, with approximately 20 million members in Africa. Rev. Wengam described Africa as a major center of growth and revival for the church. In Ghana, the Assemblies of God has about 10,077 local branches nationwide and a membership of more than 1.2 million. The Congress will be the first time in the 115-year history of the Assemblies of God Fellowship that the global gathering will be held in Africa.

Delegates from more than 100 countries are expected to converge in Accra for the event. The Congress will feature morning sessions at the Black Star Square and evening revival rallies at the Accra Sports Stadium. The event will also be opened to members of all denominations and will feature local and international gospel artistes, including Joe Mettle, Sinach, and Dunsin Oyekan.

The Congress will serve as a platform for prayer and reflection on global issues, including military conflicts and social challenges. Notable dignitaries expected to attend the event include President John Mahama, Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship and General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Singapore, Rev. Dominic Yeo, and former President of Malawi and former General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Malawi, Rev. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Rev. Wengam noted that a major plank of the World Congress is to explore strategies to accelerate the expansion and Pentecostal fervor of Assemblies of God. The event aims to bring together church leaders and members to develop strategies for growth and sustainability. The Congress is expected to have a significant impact on the global Christian community.

The upcoming World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra is set to be a historic event, marking a significant milestone in the growth and expansion of the Assemblies of God. With a focus on evangelism, church health, and revival, the Congress is poised to drive the global expansion of the Christian faith.
