The 5th edition of Africa Sports Expo opened its doors on Thursday, October 8, at the Office des Foires et des Expositions de Casablanca (OFEC). The event will run until October 11, gathering various stakeholders to discuss the challenges related to the development of the sports industry in Morocco and Africa. The opening ceremony was attended by Mehdi Sekkouri Alaoui, president of the Moroccan Federation of Sports Professionals (FMPS) and organizer of the event.
The ceremony was also attended by Abdellatif Maazouz, president of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council, and Abdoul Kassim Ibrahim Fomba, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Mali. As the guest of honor, Mali has a special place in the program, with a pavilion dedicated to the country's initiatives and development prospects in the sports sector. The minister emphasized the importance of human capital in the development of African sports.
According to Abdoul Kassim Ibrahim Fomba, infrastructure alone cannot lead to a sustainable sports model. He stressed that training, talent support, skills development, and youth involvement are crucial elements. The Malian minister placed sports policies within a broader approach, combining human development, training, and youth insertion. This approach is closely related to the professionalization of sports-related jobs and the continent's ability to better value its talents.
Mehdi Sekkouri Alaoui highlighted the expected economic benefits of the exchanges between the various actors present. He aims to make Africa Sports Expo a platform where Africa meets to develop its sports economy. His ambition is to turn the four-day meetings into partnerships, contracts, and achievements. The first day also featured the second edition of the Africa Stadiums & Arenas Forum.
The forum focused on the theme "Building Sports Infrastructure that will Transform Africa." Discussions centered on the design, financing, management, and operation of sports infrastructure. The speakers addressed the issues of economic viability, sustainability, and the ability to meet population needs while supporting territorial development. The event brought together experts and professionals to share their experiences and expertise.
The Africa Sports Expo aims to create a platform for stakeholders to discuss and develop the sports industry in Africa. With a focus on infrastructure and human capital, the event seeks to promote sustainable development and economic growth through sports. The expo will continue until October 11, with various sessions and discussions on the future of sports in Africa.
The event's emphasis on human capital and infrastructure development reflects the growing importance of sports in Africa. As the continent continues to invest in sports infrastructure, there is a need for a more comprehensive approach that includes training, talent development, and youth involvement. The Africa Sports Expo provides a valuable platform for stakeholders to come together and discuss the future of sports in Africa.
