Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, has unveiled a comprehensive nine-point development agenda aimed at transforming the state. The agenda, which he described as a "covenant" with the people of Ogun, prioritizes infrastructure, job creation, agriculture, healthcare, education, and industrialization. Adeola made the disclosure during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta.
Adeola's nine-point agenda includes introducing reforms to improve public finance, local government administration, the civil service, and the justice sector. He also plans to position Ogun as an export gateway under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), develop free trade zones, dry ports, and economic development clusters. The senator emphasized that his experience in public finance and legislative oversight has prepared him for the responsibilities of governing Ogun.
The APC candidate proposed an Ogun State Bus Mass Transit Programme to enhance transportation on major routes, including Abeokuta-Sango-Ota-Sagamu. He also plans to work with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to develop commuter rail connections between Abeokuta, Lagos, and industrial corridors. Additionally, Adeola announced "OgunRide," a state-backed mobility platform that will provide drivers with health insurance, vehicle financing, and cooperative support.
Adeola's agenda also includes developing Abeokuta's historical sites, Ijebu festivals, and the coastal heritage of Ogun Waterside, while promoting Adire, film, music, and fashion as components of the state's creative economy. He plans to expand technical and vocational training, address shortages of qualified teachers, and improve classroom infrastructure in education. Furthermore, Adeola promised reforms in the security sector, including increased funding for the Ogun State Security Trust Fund.
In the healthcare sector, Adeola pledged to expand infrastructure in underserved communities and revitalize the state's health insurance scheme, "Ilera D'ero," with a target of enrolling two million residents. He also announced plans to train 100,000 young people in digital skills by 2031 and establish a Youth Enterprise Hub in Abeokuta, with satellite hubs across the state. The initiative will be supported by microcredit for young entrepreneurs.
Adeola's agenda also covers agriculture, solid minerals development, and environmental management. He plans to introduce mechanization, farmer financing, processing hubs, climate-smart farming, and agro-industrial parks in agriculture. The senator also announced plans for a Solid Minerals Development Company to facilitate licenses and joint ventures in the state's mineral resources. Additionally, he promised to revive the Ogun State Waste Management Agency and establish recycling and waste-to-energy initiatives.
Adeola emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in his proposed government. He promised to implement a single-window revenue collection system, integrate tax, fees, and levies across government, and increase internally generated revenue by 40 percent by 2031. The senator also pledged to comply with the Freedom of Information Act, hold regular press briefings, and treat the media as a partner in governance.
