Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, has promised to complete the Mowe-Ofada Road and address other road infrastructure challenges in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area if elected governor. Adeola gave the assurance at the commissioning of the Obafemi-Owode Zonal Community Development Committee (CDC) multipurpose hall and secretariat. He identified road infrastructure as a priority in his development agenda for the local government.
Adeola specifically promised that work on the Mowe-Ofada Road would commence immediately after his administration assumes office. He noted that the area's strategic location and proximity to Lagos State made it important to Ogun's economic development. The APC candidate also promised to assess other roads in the area, particularly one for which residents had requested palliative intervention.
Adeola described Obafemi-Owode as a strategic local government with enormous economic potential. He said his administration would give the area greater attention to accelerate development and generate more revenue for the state. According to him, the local government's proximity to Lagos and its geographical advantages present opportunities that could transform it into a major economic hub.
The Senator further disclosed plans to hold a stakeholders' engagement with residents to identify the development priorities of the local government and determine which projects required immediate, temporary or permanent solutions. He said that although he had facilitated intervention projects, including schools, transformers, roads and markets, there was still a need for broader consultations to address the area's development challenges.
Chairman of Obafemi-Owode Zonal CDC, Engr. Gboyega Adeleke, said the multipurpose hall and secretariat was funded solely by community practitioners in the local government. Adeleke disclosed that the committee spent N75,847,125.63 on the construction of the facility, in addition to N2.5 million for the acquisition of the landed property.
Ogun State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Adeola Balogun, described the multipurpose hall as a legacy project that would support community programmes, youth-based activities and economic development in Obafemi-Owode and beyond. Balogun commended the Zonal CDC for the initiative, noting that the project demonstrated the importance of community participation in driving development.
Adeola also promised to support the community structures in mobilising residents and ensuring a strong voter turnout. He urged community leaders to mobilise residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The local government has about 207,000 registered voters, stressing that the registration figure must translate into actual votes during elections.
