The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has denounced a statement by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka regarding former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi's mother's death. The ADC PCC described Morka's comments as a "display of political cruelty." The council's Director of Strategic Communications, Phrank Shaibu, signed the statement on Sunday, expressing dismay over the APC's reaction. The ADC PCC emphasized that a mother's death and a family's grief should not be used for partisan ridicule.
The ADC PCC criticized Morka for calling Amaechi a "loafer" for struggling outside public office. The council argued that this remark reflects the APC's "contempt for ordinary people." According to the council, Nigerians facing difficulties in affording basic necessities are not loafers but citizens suffering due to the government's failures. The ADC PCC highlighted the struggles of millions of Nigerians who cannot afford treatment, food, and basic necessities.
The ADC PCC further criticized the state of Nigeria's infrastructure, economy, electricity, security, and welfare. The council stated that the reality is plain: the roads are bad, the economy is bad, electricity is bad, security is bad, and the welfare of the people is bad. The council also noted that Tinubu's name is increasingly associated with poverty, insecurity, and hardship.
The council challenged Morka to explain why Nigerians continue to face dangerous journeys on roads meant to connect communities and support trade. The ADC PCC pointed out that the roads in the East, the region Morka comes from, are in a deplorable state. The council asked how many overturned trailers, near-collisions, and desperate journeys Nigerians must endure before the government admits that the country's roads are in crisis.
The ADC PCC also criticized the APC over public spending, stating that the party cannot boast about trillions in public spending while Nigerians lack safe roads, reliable electricity, and affordable healthcare. The council argued that the APC cannot blame one politician's personal circumstances for the hardship being felt in homes across the country.
According to the council, the test of government is not how viciously its spokesmen can insult their opponents but whether people can live safely, afford treatment, and earn a decent living. The ADC PCC stated that on that test, Tinubu's government has failed. The council also urged Nigerians to make 2027 "a turning point" and avoid the poverty and insecurity associated with Tinubu's rule.
The ADC PCC said Morka owes Nigerians an explanation for the government's record and Amaechi's family "the respect that grief deserves." The council emphasized that no amount of mockery can make the country's conditions disappear. The ADC PCC's statement reflects the party's concerns about the government's performance and its impact on Nigerians' lives.
