Kpalimé, Togo - Adani Kouami, representing the Atsemawoè cooperative union, has been re-elected as president of the National Platform for Fair Trade in Togo (PNCE-Togo). The election took place during the ordinary and elective general assembly on September 30 in Kpalimé. Adani Kouami will lead a three-member bureau for a new three-year term. The assembly also saw the renewal of the supervisory board, in accordance with the organization's bylaws.
During the assembly, members reviewed and examined various reports, including moral, activity, financial, and internal control reports. They also formulated recommendations and reviewed activities carried out during the previous year. Furthermore, participants voted on the work program and annual budget (PTBA) for the upcoming year. For 2027, PNCE-Togo aims to strengthen the capacities of its members, organize regular statutory meetings, and follow up on recognition files.
The PNCE-Togo platform focuses on promoting fair trade and strengthening agricultural value chains in Togo. According to the financial report, the organization recorded a credit balance of 3,770,478 FCFA. Regional Director of Plateaux-Ouest of the Ministry of Agriculture, Konde Yawovi Afidenyo, congratulated the newly elected members and urged them to prioritize listening, consultation, transparency, and teamwork.
Konde Yawovi Afidenyo highlighted the potential of coffee, cocoa, cashew, and pineapple sectors in creating income, jobs, and added value in Togo. He encouraged the pursuit of efforts to improve product quality and traceability, local transformation, access to remunerative markets, and strengthening the position of producers in value chains.
The assembly led to several recommendations, including regular meetings between the board of directors and the supervisory board. Recommendations also included making cooperative statutes and internal regulations available, reducing the cost of organizing general assemblies, and increasing the number of supervisory board members.
Participants also suggested organizing regular training sessions for members of governance bodies and ensuring that all producer organizations have certification. They recommended supporting organizations that have lost certification to regain it. The issue of women's representation in management bodies was also raised.
The PNCE-Togo platform brings together various stakeholders to promote fair trade practices and improve the livelihoods of producers in Togo. With a focus on sustainability and equitable trade, the organization aims to make a positive impact on the lives of its members and the broader community.
