British independent energy company Savannah Energy Plc has announced that its Nigerian midstream subsidiary, Accugas Limited, has inaugurated the Board of Trustees for its Host Communities Development Trust. This marks a significant milestone in Accugas' relationship with host communities in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States. The company has supported development in education, healthcare, empowerment, and infrastructure in these communities over the years.
The new Board will oversee the management and deployment of community development funds in line with the Petroleum Industry Act. The Trust provides a structured and sustainable platform for host communities to participate in identifying and prioritizing their development needs and implementing initiatives to address those needs. This initiative is a key aspect of Accugas' sustainability strategy, focusing on promoting socio-economic prosperity.
Nkoyo Etuk, Head of Stakeholder Relations and Regional Manager, Nigeria, Savannah, emphasized Accugas' longstanding commitment to its host communities. Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong, Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Akwa Ibom State, praised Accugas for incorporating host communities into its development agenda. He urged the Board members to discharge their responsibilities with integrity and accountability, stressing the importance of carrying their communities along.
