The Association of Corporate Communication and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB) is celebrating its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of promoting professionalism, innovation, and public trust in Nigeria's banking industry. Established in 1996, ACAMB was founded by professionals who recognized the need to protect the reputation of the banking industry while promoting high standards in communication and stakeholder engagement. The anniversary is themed "30 Years of Shaping Narratives and Building Trust."
ACAMB's President, Babajide Sipe, said the milestone is an opportunity to reflect on the association's achievements and prepare for the future. He noted that corporate communication has evolved beyond simply passing information to stakeholders, stressing that it now involves building understanding, managing perceptions responsibly, and strengthening confidence in institutions. Sipe added that ACAMB has promoted professional standards and best practices, organized capacity-building programs and conferences, and facilitated knowledge sharing and networking opportunities for practitioners.
Over the past three decades, ACAMB has played a significant role in advocating and promoting the banking industry, contributing to thought leadership and initiatives around health, wellness, environmental sustainability, and community development. The association has been led by 10 presidents since its establishment, beginning with its pioneer President, the late Alhaji Kabir Dangogo. Sipe is the current president of the association, which has grown from a modest beginning into a community focused on knowledge sharing, mutual support, and collective representation of the banking industry.
To commemorate the anniversary, ACAMB has planned several activities, including a tree-planting exercise, Golf and Networking Experience, and a grand finale Gala and Awards Night on September 30, 2026. The tree-planting exercise is designed to demonstrate ACAMB's commitment to environmental sustainability, while the Gala and Awards Night will recognize individuals and stakeholders who have contributed to the growth of ACAMB and the communication profession.
The First Vice President, Chinwe Bode-Akinwande, said the anniversary program reflects ACAMB's broader commitment to the wellbeing of its members and society. The General Secretary, Olugbenga Owootomo, noted that the next phase for ACAMB would focus on innovation and equipping members to respond to rapid changes in the communication industry. He added that the association has advanced standards, built platforms for learning, and built strategic partnerships.
Other officials of ACAMB, including the Second Vice President, Morolake Philip-Ladipo, and the Treasurer, Unoaku Temitope Anyadike, emphasized the importance of collaboration among professionals and the association's priorities beyond professional development to environmental sustainability and community development. The Publicity Secretary, Abiodun Coker, stressed that trust remains central to corporate communication, adding that effective communication is about creating understanding and strengthening relationships between banks and the populace.
Looking ahead, Sipe said ACAMB would continue to adapt to emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, digital media, and changing expectations from stakeholders, while maintaining its focus on professionalism, integrity, and credibility. The 30th Anniversary is not simply a celebration of longevity; it is a celebration of impact, resilience, relationships, and trust.
