A group of stakeholders from Abia North, known as the Alliance for Good Governance (AGG), has expressed its support for the re-election of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti. The group, comprising individuals from various political parties, believes that the state's current infrastructure and amenities should not be discontinued after 2027. They argue that Abia has never experienced good governance like it has under Otti's administration.
The AGG's spokesperson, Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa, stated that the group's gathering aimed to consolidate the gains of its previous meeting, which decided that Otti's administration should continue until 2031. The stakeholders, including former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, and industrialist, Chief Ebueme Ezikpe, have resolved to support, protect, and sustain Otti's good governance model beyond 2031.
According to Prof. Mkpa, the meeting unanimously agreed that Otti's administration represents good governance, and all speakers were in favor of sustaining it beyond 2031. The group plans to embark on voter education, particularly at the grassroots level, and mobilize youths not to succumb to pressure or inducement from other parties. They encourage Otti to continue breaking new grounds in the remaining months of his first term and into his second term.
The former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Ogah, opined that Abia North stakeholders have not only resolved to support Otti's re-election but have also mapped out strategies to achieve it. He stated that with good governance in place, Abians are knowledgeable and know what is good and what is bad. Ogah urged Abians to come out en masse to support Otti in 2027.
Sir Johnson Chukwu, who hosted the event, explained that the alliance was created to build a structure where opinion leaders can shape the direction of governance based on Otti's achievements in road infrastructure, quality education, healthcare, and other sectors. He emphasized the need to institutionalize good governance in Abia State.
Elder Urum Kalu Eke, who worked with Otti in the banking sector, expressed pride in Otti's representation and achievements. He stated that Otti has demonstrated quality and replicated private sector advocacy in the public sector. Eke endorsed Otti's performance and encouraged him to continue.
The AGG's endorsement of Otti's re-election is based on the state's massive infrastructure development and good governance under his administration. The group believes that Otti's leadership has brought about positive change in Abia State and that his administration should be sustained beyond 2031.
