A prominent figure in the Tinubu Support Group from Jigawa State, Dr. Magaji Da’u Aliyu, has cautioned that abandoning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections would have far-reaching implications for the north-south political marriage. Aliyu, the Deputy Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group for the North-West, made this statement during a solidarity visit by hundreds of APC members and Tinubu supporters from Birnin Kudu/Buji Federal Constituency at his residence.

Aliyu, a former two-term lawmaker and Chief of Staff in the APC’s National Presidential Campaign Council, emphasized that voting for Tinubu is crucial for the north to demonstrate its commitment to the much-talked-about fidelity to accords. He pointed to Tinubu’s contributions to the realization of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s ambition and the current benefits of Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly in food security.

The massive turnout of APC supporters in Kaduna during the presidential campaign kick-off last Saturday, according to Aliyu, demonstrates the north’s commitment to supporting Tinubu’s re-election ambition. He stated that the north’s choice of Tinubu remains a commitment to a better Nigeria and national cohesion, adding that the region will return Tinubu to Aso Rock.

Aliyu took his listeners through the history of how former President Buhari contested the presidency several times before winning under the APC with Tinubu’s political support. He argued that the South-West supported Buhari’s two presidential terms based on an understanding that power would shift to the South-West, which has now happened with Tinubu’s emergence as president.

Aliyu urged APC members and supporters across the north to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to mobilizing voters for Tinubu’s re-election. He emphasized that supporting Tinubu in 2027 would strengthen national unity, honor the political understanding between the two regions, and promote the sustainability of Nigeria’s democracy.

The former lawmaker expressed hope that the region would vote massively to return Tinubu to Aso Rock, describing the president’s re-election as the fulfillment of an earlier political understanding between the north and the South-West. He warned that doing anything to the contrary would destroy the north’s reputation for keeping agreements.

Aliyu’s warning comes as the 2027 general elections approach, with various stakeholders mobilizing support for their preferred candidates. The Tinubu Support Group and other APC factions are working to ensure a smooth re-election process for the president, with Aliyu playing a key role in mobilizing support from the north.
