Fifty-four postgraduate scholarship beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme have departed Nigeria for the United Kingdom to commence studies at various universities. The scholars left Abuja and arrived in London last Friday. They are among 150 beneficiaries who underwent pre-departure orientation in August.
The latest deployment has raised to 243 the number of offshore postgraduate scholarship beneficiaries deployed by PAP this year. The beneficiaries are enrolled in diverse programmes, including software engineering, cyber-security, global public health, oil and gas engineering, law, fintech analytics, construction engineering management, forensic auditing, and data science analytics.
PAP administrator, Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, charged the scholars to remain focused on their studies, comply with UK laws and the regulations of their respective institutions, and conduct themselves as good ambassadors of Nigeria and the Niger Delta. He urged them to return home after completing their programmes and deploy their acquired knowledge and skills towards the development of their communities and the nation.
Otuaro attributed the large-scale scholarship deployments to the support of President Bola Tinubu, under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He also commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for his supervision, insights, and professional input, while appreciating other stakeholders for their cooperation.
The PAP administrator emphasized that education is the vehicle for the socio-economic advancement and sustainable peace and stability of the Niger Delta. He stressed that sustained investment in the region's youths will help secure a better future.
Otuaro expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his support for the programme, noting that without his backing, the huge deployments would not have been possible. The beneficiaries are expected to make the most of the opportunities provided and make a positive impact in their communities.
