The Nigerien government has launched a vocational training program in collaboration with Algeria, benefiting 500 young Nigeriens. The program, announced by Minister of Public Service, Labor, and Employment Aïssata Abdoulaye Tondi, aims to equip the selected youths with skills in 19 in-demand professions. The training, graciously offered by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, will last between 20 to 45 days, depending on the chosen field.
The selected young Nigeriens were chosen from thousands of applicants, and Minister Tondi emphasized the importance of this opportunity. She encouraged the beneficiaries to exhibit discipline, responsibility, and seriousness during their stay in Algeria. The minister also highlighted the responsibility that comes with being an ambassador of Niger, stating that their individual behavior will reflect on the country's image.
The 19 professions included in the program are based on an study by the National Observatory of Employment, which identified the needs of the labor market. Some of the fields include electrical building, plumbing, and welding. A guide will be provided to the beneficiaries, translated into French, Zarma, and Hausa, to facilitate their understanding and adaptation during the training.
According to Seydou Marayé, Director of Labor and Employment, the beneficiaries have been distributed across the 19 professional fields. He explained that the program includes a support system to facilitate the professional integration of the young people upon their return to Niger, enabling them to utilize the skills acquired during their training.
The program is part of the strengthening of Niger-Algeria cooperation, particularly in vocational training and development. The initiative aims to provide opportunities for young Nigeriens to acquire skills and improve their employability. The Algerian government has graciously offered this training as a gesture of solidarity and cooperation.
The departure of the beneficiaries is scheduled in two groups, with the first group leaving Niamey on September 29, 2026, at 23:50, and the second group departing on September 30, 2026, at 10:25. The program's organizers have made efforts to ensure that the beneficiaries are from all regions of Niger, providing an equal opportunity for all.
