Twenty-seven schools in Kogi State have benefited from the back-to-school Empowerment Program initiated by the Governor's wife, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo. The program, carried out through the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, provided over 3,750 learning materials to pupils and students. This effort aims to alleviate financial pressure on parents and boost students' confidence as they return to school. The program focused on providing essential educational materials to enhance school participation and performance.

The distribution of learning materials took place during a five-day outreach from September 28 to October 2. The Governor's wife, represented by the Coordinator of the Ohunene Empowerment Program, Mrs. Mary Agamalafiya, emphasized the importance of access to essential learning materials for effective school participation. The initiative targets vulnerable groups, particularly children and young individuals, as part of the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative's ongoing efforts to provide support.

The program specifically targeted pupils in nursery classes, Primary two to four, and Junior Secondary School one to three, with additional support for pupils in other classes in some of the schools visited. The intervention covered six Local Government Areas: Adavi, Bassa, Dekina, Kabba, Koton-Karfe, and Ogori/Magongo. This strategic approach ensures that the most vulnerable students receive the necessary support to excel academically.

A wide range of essential educational materials were distributed, including school bags, books, calculators, mathematical sets, pencil cases, lunch bags, shoes, and water bottles. These items are expected to mitigate challenges hindering children's school participation and inspire them to perform better as they start the new academic year. By providing foundational learning resources, the initiative aims to make a lasting impact on the students' educational journey.
