The Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress, Abdul'aziz Yari, has cautioned northerners against demanding that the presidency must return to the North in the 2027 general elections. Yari gave this warning while addressing prominent Islamic scholars at the residence of late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi in Bauchi State. This engagement was part of the PCC delegation's consultations with critical stakeholders ahead of the forthcoming political engagements.
The PCC delegation, led by Yari, had earlier visited Jos, Plateau State, where they paid a condolence visit to Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir at his residence, following the passing of the JIBWIS National Treasurer. The team also held engagements with key stakeholders as the council intensifies consultations across the country. Yari's warning comes as the country prepares for the next general elections.
Yari emphasized that insisting on the presidency returning to the North could undermine national unity. He stated that leaders should come from different parts of the country when it is united. Yari suggested that when a President is elected from the North, another President should be elected from the South, as a solution to Nigeria's diversity.
Yari urged Nigerians to support a leadership arrangement that promotes national unity and allows different parts of the country to produce the President. He stressed the importance of maintaining unity and equality in leadership. The APC governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar, also spoke at the event.
Abubakar reminded the Ulamas that President Tinubu is a lover of the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, recalling that Tinubu travelled to Bauchi to sympathize with the followers of the late Islamic scholar following his death. Abubakar called on Bauchi residents to re-elect Tinubu and support the APC at all levels in the forthcoming general elections.
