Nigerian Minister of Works, Sen David Umahi, has declared that the 2027 general election will be a movement in Ebonyi State and the entire South East region, with President Bola Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate. Umahi made this statement during the grand finale of the Ohanivo New Yam Festival held in Oshiri, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He emphasized that the APC party has nothing to worry about in terms of funding for the election.
According to Umahi, he has over 5,000 billionaire friends who are ready to support the re-election of President Tinubu. He urged the people to rally behind APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, specifically calling for votes for Tinubu at the presidential level, Nwifuru for governor, and other APC candidates. Umahi stated that the party would embark on a grassroots mobilisation campaign across the state.
Umahi also urged supporters of APC not to destroy campaign posters or disrupt the activities of opposition parties. He emphasized that his focus is on working with Governor Nwifuru to secure what he described as "eight years" for the administration. Governor Nwifuru, who was present at the event, recalled the political developments leading to his emergence as governor in 2023.
Governor Nwifuru expressed gratitude for the support he received from the community, which has given him the confidence to seek another term in office. He commended Umahi for his effective representation of Ebonyi and the Southeast in the Federal Executive Council. Nwifuru also acknowledged the contributions of Ebonyi sons and daughters serving in the National Assembly.
The people of Ohanivo, during the event, urged Governor Nwifuru not to be distracted by the activities of "political merchants". They also celebrated the New Yam Festival as a symbol of thanksgiving, culture, hard work, unity, and prosperity.
