Hon Godfrey Gaiya, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Southern Kaduna district, has expressed doubts about the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors' ability to facilitate President Bola Tinubu's victory in the 2027 presidential election. According to Gaiya, many of these governors will not even vote for Tinubu. He cited a high-level conspiracy in northern Nigeria against the president, who he claims has made life unbearable for the people in the region.
Gaiya, a former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, made these remarks in an interview with Sunday Sun. He dismissed the notion that APC governors will support Tinubu's re-election bid, saying that Nigerians have witnessed four years of "total misrule" under the APC leadership. The living standard of an average Nigerian has fallen, and affording basic necessities has become a challenge. Gaiya believes that Nigerians are eager for change and will vote for the ADC in the 2027 elections.
The ADC senatorial candidate expressed confidence that his party will have an edge over the APC in the presidential election. He noted that the ADC, led by Atiku Abubakar, has a better chance of winning the election due to its national spread and the fact that it has not been associated with the misrule of the APC. Gaiya also acknowledged that the presidential election is likely to be a three-horse race between Tinubu, Atiku, and Peter Obi.
Gaiya discussed the possibility of an alliance between the ADC and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), led by Obi. He revealed that the two parties were initially together but parted ways due to disagreements and ambition. Although the NNPP is now a separate entity, Gaiya expressed hope that the two parties can still work together before the 2027 elections. He described Obi as a good person but noted that the NNPP's late start and some of its candidates' past records may affect its chances.
