The 2027 presidential election campaign is gaining steam in Nigeria, with just three months to go until the polls on January 16, 2027. Although the campaign officially started on August 19 for both presidential and National Assembly elections, many parties have been slow to start, limiting their activities to consultative meetings and forming campaign councils. However, there are signs that major political parties are now gearing up for a more vigorous campaign.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has announced its schedule of activities, which includes the inauguration of the team next week. The Director-General of the Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, revealed this after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. Yari stated that the campaign team had agreed on the schedule with the President and secured his approval for the planned activities. The APC campaign is set to kick off in Kaduna on October 24.

Other parties are also making progress with their campaign preparations. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council, with National Chairman Senator David Mark urging the council to engage with all categories of Nigerians across the country. The council's chairman, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, has tasked members with collecting Permanent Voter Cards and encouraging participation in the 2027 polls.

The African Action Congress (AAC) has also inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council, with the aim of intensifying nationwide mobilisation for its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and his running mate, Haruna Magashi. The AAC council will be led by Abdullahi Usman as Director-General, with deputies responsible for Strategy and Political Affairs, and Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation.

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council on October 20, 2026, at a National Executive Committee meeting. The party's National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, stated that this would mark the beginning of the party's full campaign takeoff. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the final phase of preparations for the election.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this at a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders' Meeting. The commission's efforts are crucial in ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process. With the campaigns gaining momentum, Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the 2027 presidential election.

As the election draws near, political parties are working to engage with voters and secure their support. The APC, ADC, AAC, and NDC are all vying for the presidency, and their campaigns will likely intensify in the coming weeks. Key points to watch include the parties' strategies for engaging with voters, the impact of INEC's preparations on the electoral process, and the overall tone of the campaigns.
