Chief Ifeanyi Odii, the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, has dismissed claims that he has stepped down for Governor Francis Nwifuru. Odii stated this in his hometown of Isu, in the Onicha Local Government Area of the state, during a meeting with journalists on Sunday. He emphasized that he remains in the race, determined to win the election and tackle hunger and poverty in the state.

Odii attributed the insinuation that he had stepped down to political manoeuvring, specifically citing the Minister of Works, David Umahi. He stressed that his party, the PDP, had given him its ticket through consensus, and he was contesting to offer the people of Ebonyi State better governance. Odii described the claims as an attempt to undermine democracy, emphasizing that every individual knows what the Constitution says.

The PDP candidate stated that he respects Governor Nwifuru but had not been asked by him to step down. Odii expressed confidence in his ability to lead the state, citing his compassion for the people and his desire to improve their lives. He noted that he was not worried about the election, as he had already garnered support from people who believe in him.

Odii outlined his vision for Ebonyi State, which includes creating employment opportunities and addressing hunger. He emphasized that good governance is essential for the state's development, and every individual should be concerned about it. The PDP candidate stated that a hungry person does not consider their ethnic or regional background, and his government would prioritize addressing this issue.

Odii's campaign strategy involves door-to-door campaigns and social media engagement. He has a significant following on social media platforms, with almost three million followers worldwide. The PDP candidate expressed his commitment to engaging with the people and soliciting their support for the upcoming election.

In addition to addressing hunger and poverty, Odii pledged to expand access to medical education and improve the state's healthcare system. He cited statistics from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, which indicate a shortage of medical practitioners in the country. Odii emphasized the need for a sustainable pipeline of skilled personnel to address the state's healthcare challenges.

Odii concluded that he was contesting the governorship election to set Ebonyi State on a renewed path of progress, prosperity, and sustainable development. He appealed for the votes of registered voters in the state, promising to work with them to achieve meaningful progress. The PDP candidate emphasized that, with purposeful leadership and proper management of institutions, Ebonyi State can achieve much more.
