The Labour Party presidential candidate, Dr. Sunday Chibuzo Okereke, has urged voters in Abia State to support the party’s candidates across all elective positions in the 2027 general elections. He made the call during a solidarity roadshow in Arochukwu Kingdom, Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State. The event was attended by a large gathering of Labour Party supporters and residents who marched through parts of Arochukwu with banners, placards, posters, and other campaign materials.
Dr. Okereke observed that coordinated representation at the federal and state levels would be critical to sustaining the development agenda of Governor Alex Otti’s administration. He said his proposed governance agenda included strengthening Nigeria’s federal system and making the local government system functional. The agenda also involves introducing zero-based budgeting and undertaking a reset of the country’s institutional governance architecture.
The Labour Party presidential candidate used the occasion to endorse and mobilise support for Governor Otti, whom he described as a key figure in the Labour Party’s efforts to strengthen its political structure. He also solicited support for the party’s candidates contesting legislative seats across the state, including Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, and Hon. Uchenna Okoro.
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally, Dr. Okereke said the gathering was primarily organised to appreciate Governor Otti for his administration’s development efforts in Abia. He added that the changes in the state had attracted attention beyond its borders. According to him, the rally was also a demonstration of solidarity with Otti for his role in strengthening the Labour Party.
Dr. Okereke said his aspiration for the presidency was driven by a desire to demonstrate a different approach to governance. He credited Governor Otti’s administration with a dramatic improvement in Abia’s happiness and human development indices, which he said had risen “from zero to 98 per cent.” He urged Nigerians to take greater interest in political participation and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) where necessary.
The traditional ruler of Arochukwu Kingdom, Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, Eze Aro IX, prayed for the presidential candidate and wished him well in his campaign. The monarch advised Okereke to uphold due process and respect the rule of law throughout the campaign. He stressed that his actions and conduct should reflect the dignity, values, customs, and respect attached to the traditional institution and people of Arochukwu.
Dr. Okereke urged Abians to “go all the way” with Labour Party candidates in the 2027 elections, arguing that supporting a governor without corresponding legislative support could make the implementation of a coherent development programme more difficult. He emphasized that democracy should go beyond elections and translate into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
