Oyo State Governor and Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has declared that the 2027 presidential election will be a contest between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Nigerians, not political parties. This assertion was made in Katsina on Tuesday during a Northwest town hall meeting organised by his campaign team to present the party’s “Reset Nigeria” agenda ahead of the 2027 election.
According to Makinde, the proposed “Reset Nigeria” agenda would focus on the economy, education, insecurity and the country’s socio-political system, to build a country that works for citizens irrespective of tribe, religion or region. He urged the electorate to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the election.
Makinde also lashed out at the claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that President Bola Tinubu gave him or Oyo State N50 billion for the upgrade of Ibadan Airport. The Oyo State security executive debunked the insinuation as false, affirming that the airport project was being funded solely by the Oyo State Government.
The APM Presidential candidate also lamented the country’s security situation, pointing to the recent killing of 37 young Nigerians in Niger State. He criticised the failure of President Tinubu to transmit power to Vice President Kashim Shettima while outside the country, citing Section 145 of the Nigerian Constitution.
Makinde promised to comply with the constitutional provision if elected president, saying “I transmitted power to my deputy whenever I am travelling outside Nigeria for more than 21 days and pledged to comply with the constitutional provision if elected president”. He added, “Record this and hold me accountable”.
The party’s vice-presidential candidate, Lawal Musa Daura, noted that insecurity and poverty were among the major challenges facing the Northwest, assuring that the APM administration will confront the menace. Daura said the Makinde-led ticket offered Nigerians an alternative and pledged that the duo would pursue the proposed national reset agenda if elected.
Daura urged Nigerians to exercise their civic rights within the law and vote in the 2027 election, promising that the campaign would remain focused on reducing insecurity and restoring normalcy across the country. The APM campaign team is working to present their agenda and gain support for the upcoming election.
