The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has started its zonal town hall meetings ahead of the 2027 general elections, with its North-West engagement held in Katsina on September 22. The meeting brought together APM stakeholders and candidates from across the North-West to discuss issues affecting the country and engage citizens.
The town hall meeting is part of a series of engagements planned across the six geopolitical zones. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, the party's presidential candidate, outlined the "Reset Nigeria" agenda of his campaign. The agenda focuses on critical issues of national importance, especially those bordering on national stability and the well-being of Nigerians.
Makinde said the party's campaign would be issue-based and citizen-driven, with emphasis on national stability and the well-being of Nigerians. The "Reset Nigeria" agenda focuses on four major pillars: resetting the economy, education, security, and building a nation where leaders are accessible, accountable, and service-driven.
On education, Makinde said the proposed agenda would focus on obtaining accurate data on school-age children and out-of-school children to facilitate their return to classrooms. He also identified insecurity as another area requiring a reset, promising to review the country's security architecture.
Makinde argued that Nigeria's natural resources alone could not guarantee economic prosperity, stressing the need to develop entrepreneurship, skills, and knowledge, alongside intensive protection. He promised that, if elected president, he would comply with the constitutional requirement on the transfer of presidential powers when he is unavailable.
Makinde disputed a claim attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that the Federal Government provided ₦50 billion to Oyo State for the upgrade of the Ibadan Airport. He said the airport upgrade was being financed entirely by the Oyo State Government as part of a ₦100 billion private bond programme approved for several infrastructure projects.
Makinde urged APM members and supporters to work towards the success of the party in the 2027 elections, saying this would advance its stated objective of resetting the country. The APM candidate criticised the practice of political office holders failing to formally transfer power to their deputies while proceeding on leave, specifically referring to President Bola Tinubu's current vacation abroad.
