Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, the African Democratic Party's (ADP) Kwara South senatorial candidate, has stated that his party is poised to provide an alternative platform for the people of Kwara state. According to Mohammed, the ADP has a comprehensive blueprint to tackle the various challenges confronting the state, including high cost of living, low agricultural development, persistent insecurity, and poor micro, small, and medium entrepreneurship growth. Mohammed made this assertion while speaking with journalists in Ilorin over the weekend.
Mohammed highlighted that Kwara state is endowed with abundant human and natural resources, which can be harnessed for the socio-economic well-being of its residents if properly managed. He emphasized that the ADP's objective is to bring government closer to the people and address their needs effectively. Mohammed, a native of Balogun Ward in Offa, Kwara South district, expressed optimism that the ADP can make a significant difference in the state's governance and project distribution.
The senatorial candidate criticized the current focus on the two main political parties in the state, urging the electorate to consider alternative platforms like the ADP. He argued that the two dominant parties lack clear-cut agendas or manifestos for the masses. Mohammed condemned the lack of continuity in projects and policies among successive governments in the state, stating that this has resulted in suffering for the people.
Mohammed outlined the ADP's plans to empower the poor and create opportunities for growth. He stated that the party would provide assistance to various sectors, including engineering and agriculture. For instance, the ADP would support farmers by providing an enabling environment for them to cultivate food and cash crops. Mohammed also emphasized the need to address the low school enrolment in the Kwara South district, which he attributed to the neglect of educational development by successive administrations.
The ADP senatorial candidate also highlighted the plight of entrepreneurs in the state, particularly those in the informal sector. He noted that many of these individuals lack financial capacity to establish their own businesses or access capital. Mohammed stated that the ADP would provide support to these entrepreneurs, enabling them to grow and contribute to the state's economy.
Mohammed further emphasized the importance of maintenance culture in the state. He argued that the government's focus on constructing new projects is not sustainable without a culture of maintenance. The ADP, he said, would prioritize assistance to people and provide opportunities for them to grow, rather than solely focusing on infrastructure development.
In conclusion, Mohammed urged the people of Kwara state to consider the ADP as a viable alternative in the 2027 elections. He expressed confidence that the party's comprehensive blueprint and commitment to empowering the people would make a significant difference in the state's governance and development.
