The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Bala Bello Tinka, has promised to review the restrictions placed on commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Achaba, by the state government if elected. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya had imposed a night time restriction on commercial motorcycle operations in Gombe metropolis and environs from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM in June 2025 to reduce crime. Tinka's pledge has generated interest among residents and motorcycle operators.
Speaking while addressing residents and supporters across Gombe metropolis, Tinka said if elected, he would lift the restrictions on Achaba operations, subject to appropriate safety and regulatory measures, and allow operators to resume full-time services across the state. He promised to restore 24-hour Achaba operations, arguing that thousands of young people depend on the business for their livelihoods, while many residents rely on commercial motorcycles for transportation, particularly during late hours.
Tinka also outlined key priorities that would guide the early months of his administration, saying he would take decisive action against phone and handbag snatching if elected governor. He stated that within the first two months of assuming office, his administration would take firm measures to tackle street crime, particularly the activities of criminals who snatch mobile phones and handbags from residents, motorists and pedestrians.
The ADC candidate emphasized that residents should be able to move freely within their communities without fear of criminal attacks, adding that his administration would strengthen security efforts and work closely with relevant security agencies and community stakeholders to address street-level crime. This move is expected to enhance the safety and security of residents across Gombe State.
Tinka reiterated his commitment to free education from primary school through university, saying the policy would ensure that children from poor and less privileged families are not denied educational opportunities because of financial constraints. He said investing in education would give young people more opportunities to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to Gombe State’s development.
On healthcare, Tinka pledged to provide free antenatal care for all pregnant women and free medical treatment for children from birth to five years of age. He said the measures would reduce the financial burden on families and improve access to essential maternal and child healthcare services across the state. This move is expected to improve the health and wellbeing of residents, particularly women and children.
Tinka said his administration would prioritise security, free and accessible education, maternal and child healthcare, youth employment and economic empowerment, describing them as key areas for improving the welfare and living standards of ordinary residents across Gombe State. His campaign promises have generated interest and expectations among residents, who are eagerly waiting to see if he will be elected as the next governor of Gombe State.
