The 19th Port Games were officially opened in Morogoro on October 14, 2026. The games, which will run for four days until October 15, 2026, are being held at the Jamhuri Stadium and the Bwalo la Umwema in Morogoro. A total of 466 participants from the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), Dar es Salaam, Tanga, and Mtwara ports, as well as the Zanzibar Port Corporation (ZPC), are competing in various sports.

The games were opened by Morogoro District Commissioner, Mussa Kilakala, who emphasized the importance of sports in promoting physical and mental well-being, discipline, and teamwork among port workers. Kilakala noted that the port sector plays a critical role in Tanzania's economy and that workers in this sector must be in good health to carry out their duties effectively.

Kilakala congratulated the TPA and participating institutions for organizing the games for the 19th consecutive year, saying it demonstrates their commitment to promoting a culture of sports and wellness among workers. He also urged participants to use the games as an opportunity to build relationships and promote teamwork.

TPA Director General, Plasduce Mbossa, said the games aim to promote health, unity, and good working relationships among port workers. Mbossa noted that this year's games feature participants from various port stations across the country and include sports such as soccer, basketball, netball, volleyball, tug-of-war, and athletics.

In addition to modern sports, the games also feature traditional games like bao, cards, and drafts, which provide an opportunity for workers to engage in recreational activities and build camaraderie. Mbossa emphasized that the goal of the games is not only to compete but also to promote health, discipline, and teamwork among participants.

The games are being held under the theme "Port Games 2026: Sports as a Source of Joy, Good Health, and Sustainable Creativity for Port and National Development." Mbossa said the TPA will continue to promote a culture of sports to contribute to the well-being of workers and improve efficiency in the port sector.

The 19th Port Games are expected to conclude on October 15, 2026, with participants competing for top honors in their respective sports. The games are seen as an essential part of promoting a healthy and productive workforce in Tanzania's port sector.
