The 16th edition of the Ouagadougou International Tourism and Hospitality Fair (SITHO) is currently underway, and the Koulsé region is participating with a stand showcasing its rich cultural, artisanal, and gastronomic heritage. The region, also known as Kaya or the "cité du cuir," is known for its leather products, transformed products, and local specialties like koura-koura and brochettes.

The SITHO fair is a significant event that brings together artisans from the 17 regions of Burkina Faso, allowing them to share their experiences and showcase their craftsmanship. The Koulsé region's stand features a variety of products, including leather bags, hats, stools, and other marquetry items, as well as locally transformed products like koura-koura oil and peanut oil.

The marquetry sector occupies a prominent place in the Koulsé region's exhibition, with a range of products that evolve according to consumer needs while maintaining their traditional identity. According to Vincent Ouédraogo, an agent at the regional direction of communication, culture, arts, and tourism of Koulsé, the region's specificity lies in its marquetry with a varied range of products.

The Koulsé region's specialties also include koura-koura and brochettes made from this product, which are part of the region's culinary art. The stand offers a space where artisans and gastronomy meet to showcase the region's identity. Vincent Ouédraogo highlights the derived products from koura-koura and local specialties consumed in the area.

In addition to the commercial products, the Koulsé region's stand features elements that reflect its rich cultural and historical heritage, including the traditional chiefdom of the Boussouma kingdom. The region has brought the "museum" and the kingdom of Boussouma, including the king and his twelve cantonal chiefs, to be presented to the public.

The Koulsé region's artisans, mainly women and young people, are actively involved in sectors like pottery and marquetry. According to Vincent Ouédraogo, this involvement is crucial for preserving and transmitting the know-how. However, artisans in the region face challenges, including unfair competition from imported products that imitate local craftsmanship.

The SITHO fair provides an opportunity for Koulsé region artisans to gain visibility and find potential outlets. Through its artisanal products, gastronomy, and heritage, the Koulsé region aims to make the most of the SITHO and showcase its rich and diverse identity.
