In Burkina Faso, 1,888 health professionals have completed their patriotism immersion at Loumbila, after a 10-day civic and military training. The group, dubbed "Les sentinelles de la santé" (The Health Sentinels), includes doctors, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, and other medical specialists recruited in 2025. They will reinforce the workforce of future communal medical centers (CMC) under the Presidential Health Initiative (IPS). The immersion program took place in two batches, from September 6-16 and September 18-28, 2026, at the National Institute of Education Personnel Training (INFPE) in Loumbila. The 1,888 participants comprise 492 general practitioners, 78 pharmacists, 4 general dentists, 21 specialist doctors, 10 specialist pharmacists, 542 nurses, 351 midwives and obstetricians, 173 biomedical technologists, and 175 hospital hygiene technicians. The training included combat first aid demonstrations, shooting exercises, and a symbolic handover of certificates to the trainees by Health Minister Dr. Robert Lucien Kargougou.
The Health Minister emphasized that the immersion program prepares new agents for the demands of public service, stressing discipline, ethics, availability, and a sense of duty. He urged the agents to report to their assigned posts, respect the rules of deontology, and preserve public property. The success of the immersion program will be measured by their behavior and the quality of care provided to the population.
